Six months ago, management at the Thameside Theatre struggled to recruit Ushers. Now, they are averaging around 50 applicants per job. Teaching assistant jobs find 150 applicants per post.

It effects every industry. Indeed there are plenty of journalists out of work. As YourThurrock travels the borough, we want to tell people’s stories regarding the recession.

As they said in the 30’s. The difference between a recession and a depression: a recession is when your neighbour loses his job. A depression is when you lose yours.

We spoke to Architect Phil Holland while out with his children at Coalhouse Fort about how it has effected him.
