ALL across the borough, people gathered to pay their respects to those who gave their lives in service for their country.

Times change: the men of the Great War have gone but new names such as Lce-Corp Nicky Mason are etched on the memorial in Aveley.

Proud Gurkhas stand side by side with fresh faced ATC’s while the elderly men of the Burma Star march proudly down the High Street.

Ailing members of the Salvation Army sit for the ceremony but are bolt upright as the National Anthem strikes up.

Individuals make their own personal tributes to the fallen and the heroes.

The ceremony was conducted by Rev Darren Barlow with wreathes laid by Andrew Mackinlay MP as well as Leader of the Council, Garry Hague.

This is a fine example of what this site should be about. For those of us not able to make the ceremony, we can witness it here. Nicely shot and well edited. Well done to all those involved.
