AS YOU can appreciate, the talk that Holocaust survivor, Rudi Oppenheimer gave to the students at Chafford Hundred cannot be distilled down to ten minutes.
It was interesting that a couple of acts: Brother Beyond and Mr Quest with Klair were sponsored (by Redrow and Serric) respectively. That may well be a possible income strand.
Since then: councillors Lynn Carr, Garry Hague, Ben Maney, Amanda Wilton, Neil Rockcliffe, Barry Johnson, Amanda Arnold, Pauline Tolson have all pledged to return over £500 to the council coffers.

On wednesday night at the British All-Winners Drama Festival, sponsors Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (DC) hosted a reception for all the participants at the festival.
Steven Greener, Thurrock community safety manager for Essex Police, said: “These events are important, as it allows the public to access a whole host of services to help them in one location, and we had some really crucial questions and problems to solve from those who visited us.”
Wonderful acting came from both James and Stephanie, they delivered the comic content with ease and seemed to make the audience laugh easily too! A well written play, good use of props and the space on the stage was taken advantage of smoothly.
Or communities like Thurrock, where Police Community Support Officers and the local authority have worked with the community to organise ‘walkaround’ days. These have got agencies out into the heart of their local communities to listen to what concerns residents and affects their quality of life; do something positive about it; then feedback what’s been done. Nearly 13 tons of rubbish have been removed and 71 sites of graffiti have been cleared so far.

Staff got Ikea involved to design and decorate the library. Space, light, colour and comfort. It is also funky, so that the students feel comfortable in the library.
Miss Ami Cooper, a teacher at Corringham Primary School, added: “This is an excellent opportunity for the students to learn through practical hands on experience, without the normal constraints found in schools. Some of the children who do not normally respond well in a classroom environment have really excelled at the task, and the teamwork has been impressive.”

THE VARIETY of acts at T-Fest was quite staggering. We only have a few films left in the locker but one of them was this short but wonderful piece by the Royal Opera House team.
Jayne Gedden, Treasurer of the PTA, has rested her weary hands and calculator after a day of counting the spoils. ‘The return on the day has been a financial triumph for the PTA. We have achieved almost £3000 profit, which is quite unbelievable. We are grateful for the sponsorship and the attendance by all the individuals who helped run the activities.
Ockendon School, Treetops School, Beacon Hill and Gable Hall have all applied for the scheme that would see the schools develop independence from the local education authority whilst also benefitting from possible new buildings.
Party in the Park in South Ockendon is organised by the Community Forum and shows why that forum has gone from strength to strength. We spoke to Cllrs Wendy and Charlie Curtis about the community feel in South Ockendon.
THE CALM under pressure award for T-Fest has to go to Klair who had to stop mid-flow for the little matter of a Helicopter landing in the middle of her performance. However, Klair took up where she left off and put in a sparkling set.

NINE Thurrock swimmers were recently selected to represent Essex County ASA at the regional inter-counties swimming championships in Ipswich. The nine swimmers swam in a selection of events and helped Essex to a third place finish behind Hertfordshire and Suffolk. Thurrock’s representatives were:-

On Sunday, July 4, a 17-year-old girl from Upminster in east London was arrested in connection with this ongoing investigation. She is currently on police bail until Saturday, September 25 pending further enquiries.
