Empathy and understanding at the Gateway Academy

ALL THIS TERM, YT is focussing on the business end of the school year by paying a visit and filming a number of lessons in a number of senior schools across the borough.
They are not crits and we are not Ofsted. It is a simple fly-on-the-wall visit to the subject.
Here is a section from an english lesson at Gateway Academy.
Here, the teacher wants the students to understand the nature of empathy as illustrated in a number of poems such as those written by the war poets and the works of Thomas Hardy.

‘Empathy’ is one of the five domains of ‘S.E.A.L’ – Social & Emotional Aspects of Learning. If all school’s promoted these core values as they should to create an emotionally healthy climate, the actual aims of the National Curriculum, to produce: Successful Learners. Confident Individuals & Responsible Citizens would not only be achieved, but the ‘journey’ to G.C.S.E’s would be so much more enjoyable!
