MEMBERS of the Lakeside management team and local councillors joined together today to donate £500 worth of computer equipment to South Ockendon Community Forum as part of the shopping centre’s Heart of the Community campaign.
The donation was made to Arthur Barley, Trustee Chair of the community forum, by Lakeside staff and local councillors who are all supporting the Heart of the Community campaign. Mr Barley comments: “Our old computer was continually breaking down so this new equipment will make a world of difference to our community. Thanks to Lakeside we will be able to continue supplying information to South Ockendon residents and arranging key projects for them.”
Sophie Scott, Marketing Manager at Lakeside, comments: “Lakeside has been at the heart of the community for over 21 years so we were delighted to receive a nomination from South Ockendon Community Forum. The donation of this computer equipment will enable the community group to continue their invaluable support of South Ockendon residents and their individual projects.”
Lakeside’s Heart of the Community campaign supports two local causes every month with £500 donations. Members of the community are invited to nominate worthy charities and local groups that could benefit from a donation. From a new garden bench for a charity’s garden, to new toys for a hospice, or even man-power for painting a room in a care home – all suggestions are welcome.
A giant Heart of the Community map (pictured above) has been installed in the shopping centre and will be updated each time a donation is made. Using this map, shoppers will be able to track the progress of the charitable campaign and observe the breadth of the centre’s support across the region.
