Fire at disused church in Tilbury

Firefighters tackled a fire in a disused church in Quebec Road in Tilbury on Sunday afternoon. On arrival the officer in charge reported that the building – which measures eight by 15 metres – was completely smoke logged.

Wearing breathing apparatus and using two hose reel jets firefighters extinguished the fire, which was located under the floorboards, by 17:08.

Crews remained on scene for a further 30 minutes clearing smoke with a positive pressure ventilation fan and ensuring that no hot-spots remained.
