Stifford celebrate St George’s Day

Date posted: 24-04-2012

THE story of St George and the Dragon was brought to life at Stifford Clays Infant & Nursery School by , Thurrock’s heritage officer, Jonathan Catton.

Every pupil was dressed in red and white or as a princess or knight so Jonathan had plenty of choice when finding actors to re-enact the story where the dragon was slayed using the heavy life size sword that Jonathan provided from the Museum collection.

He also shared an informative powerpoint presentation and various flags that have previously been flown at some of Thurrock’s forts.

Jonathan visited all 3 year one classes for a question and answers session and captivated pupils with the history behind the story of St George and how he became patron saint of England.

Jonathan said “I am very impressed with the knowledge the Year 1 children have gained from their topic work on the painting ‘St George and the Dragon’ by Paulo Uccelli.”
