Chafford Hundred parents picket outside council meeting
Date posted: 24-05-2012
DOZENS OF Chafford Hundred parents and children picketed the annual mayor making ceremony last night (Wednesday) to protest against a lack of school places in the borough.
In what seems to have become an annual row, parents asked for a meeting with the portfolio holder, cllr Oliver Gerrish. Cllr Gerrish came out of the building, flanked by council officers, to discuss their needs.
YT spoke to Chafford parents spokesperson, Jamie Williams-Pike as well as cllr Gerrish.

Let’s have a think about why there is a lack of school places in Thurrock. No, nothing obvious springs to mind. Mind you I bet the Labour party can sort it out.
Ever since Chafford was built the infrastructure required for the amount of houses was overlooked by the council and planners, with further housing developments being completed both in Chafford and the rest if Thurrock once again the infrastructure requied for the amount of residents has passed the planners by again.
It does not take a genius to work out that families woudl eb moving into the se properties and with that comes both education and health but no new schools or medical centers have been built, in fact for what ever reason the local hospital (Orsett) was closed down as a hospital and turned into a part time minor injuries leaving the people of Thurrock with a 15 mile journey to their nearest A&E.
It seems to be the policy to just build cheap houses and ram as many people into one area and stuff them if they want any schoosl or health establishments
What a surprise to see councillor Coxshall standing with these parents, seeing that his ward is in the other side of the borough.
Perhaps if he wasn’t getting involved with anything that might cause some controversial problems. he might just get to important meetings on time.!!!
No investment, always profits first. Chafford Hundred a Lesson in how not to plan an Estate. New Estate to be built in Little Thurrock Blackshots and on Torells. Another disaster waiting to happen.
The TTGDC might have gone but it still seems that the Thames Gateway juggernaut rolls on with Thurrock Council obliged to meet centrally imposed housing targets that go way beyond what local needs are. As others have pointed out, the infrastructure to support the extra population always seems to be a poorly thought out and implemented afterthought. The result is that the quality of life for everyone in the borough suffers. Here’s our thoughts on the matter: http://thuraltmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/regeneration-in-thurrockhaving-your-say.html
