Grays school link up with Italian schools

Date posted: 20-06-2012

This year, the Modern Languages department at Grays School has been successful in creating a link with an Italian school.

A class of Year 7 students wrote stories about sport, and Anesu Kusosa’s story was selected to be translated in to Italian and has been published in the Italian school’s annual book. Congratulations to Anesu!

A class of Year 8 students have also been exchanging letters and posters with some Italian pen friends about some English topics. In turn, they have received letters and posters about Italian topics.

The Intercultural Club, run by Miss Pellat, have been writing articles on two different websites shared with a variety of European schools, including our link school in Italy.

Finally, Miss Pellat organised two video conferences in May. The students from TGSMAC and the Italian school introduced themselves and exchanged questions and answers and personal details.

The students’ feedback was very positive: “It was nice to carry on talking to them”, “It was something different to do”, “We made new friends”, “It was different to speak to someone in a different country”.

The MFL Department has also been working with different schools in France and some classes are corresponding with their French pen friends as well as having the opportunity to make and exchange videos.

Next year, the MFL Department intends to carry on developing these European links even further.
