G4S Olympics scandal: From Corringham to chaos

UNDER-FIRE boss of G4S, Nick Buckles has his roots in Corringham.
The beleaguered chief exec was a student at Gable Hall school on Southend Road before going onto Lancaster polytechnic before making his millions in the security industry.
Peter Buckles then rose to the rank of chief inspector and at one stage was in charge of policing based at Grays police station.
Ironically, Peter, who retired in the mid-nineties, was a significant presence in the police federation. An irony because it has been the police federation who have been particularly scathing about the performance of G4S and the preparations for the olympics.
YT spoke to a retired Thurrock police officer who said: “Peter Buckles was a real policemans’ policeman. He was my skipper for a number of years and was a pleasure to work with and work for.”
Meanwhile, his multi-millionaire son will face the music in front of House of Commons committee today (Tueday).
