TILBURY travelled to North London to take on Spartan South Midlands Premier side Haringey Borough for there first outing of the season. Manager Paul Vaughan fielded some regulars as well casting his eye over some trialists.
The Dockers started well and Ellis Skidmore headed just wide following across from Bradley Barnes after 5. On 11 a quick Sam West free kick found Tom Wraight, who’s effort was well saved.
On 24 Tilbury took the lead when a quick free kick from the excellent Jack Carlile found the dangerous Emiel Aiken to round the keeper to score. Just before the break Aiken again went close.
Tilbury started the second half well and on 60, Aiken from the right crossed only to see the ball go over the keeper into the net. Williams went close on 65 and seconds later Aaron Matthews struck the post.
The hosts did not give up and were rewarded on 80 when a hand ball in the box and former Cheshunt striker Darrell Cox struck home from the spot in to the top left hand corner. Haringey pushed hard for an equaliser and with 6 minutes remaining, they were again awarded a penalty for a foul and the same player smashed home to give his side a deserved draw.
After the game Paul Vaughan commented “Good work out for the lads. Haringey were a competitive side and gave us a good game. Pleased with the performance of new signing Jack Carlile and also pleased with the brace from Emiel Aiken who worked well up top with another new signing Ellis Skidmore. It’s still early days and look forward to Tuesday when we travel to Hullbridge Sports where we will continue to look at trialists with a view to trimming the squad down in a week or so”
