Council leader gives update on State Cinema

Date posted: 26-07-2012

A PUBLIC-private partnership is just one of the options that Thurrock Council are exploring in relation to the sale of the State Cinema in Grays.

The listed building was put up for sale last month by its owners TSP properties.

At full council on Wednesday night, council boss John Kent told the chamber that he had paid a visit to the George Street site to discuss a number of issues with the owners and council officers.

Cllr Kent said: “There are a number of options that can be explored. Our wish is for the place to be maintained as an entertainments venue.

“There may be an option where the council enters into a public/private partnership with the present or future owners.

“But talks are in the earliest stages.”

Lets hope that The State is saved from crumbling away to nothing and it can once again be a building to be proud of rather than an eyesore in the town centre

The State has so much character. I really do hope that a use can be found for it.
