A UNIQUE public consultation at Lakeside Shopping Centre this weekend gave shoppers a chance to draw, write or video their ideas for what they want to see at a major new leisure destination planned for the centre.
The consultation revealed significant appetite for new leisure facilities at the retail destination. 78% of people who took part in the survey* indicated their desire to see more leisure space at Lakeside, whilst 82% of people said they’d spend more time at Lakeside if there were more leisure facilities.
Lakeside hosted a day of free and exciting activities designed to ask shoppers for views and ideas that could shape the future of Lakeside as part of a planned multi-million pound investment over the next few years. There were over 650 respondents in total, with particular interest in bowling, new bars and restaurants, gyms/spas, seasonal events such as ice-skating, Christmas markets as well big screens for major sporting events.
Knowing that a picture tells a thousand words, the Lakeside team also brought in professional digital illustrators who used iPads to visualise many of the ideas on the day, which unearthed a raft of exciting and innovative concepts that showcased the potential of the development.
Paul Lancaster, General Manager of Lakeside Shopping Centre, said: “We’re delighted that so many people participated in this exciting and unique consultation and the overwhelming support we’ve garnered for the proposed leisure facilities. Our shoppers shape everything we do at Lakeside and they have given us some fantastic ideas about what sort of leisure space to bring to this area.
“We know people already come to Lakeside for much more than just shopping and with the help of local people we will make Lakeside an even more exciting leisure destination in future.”
