CCTV images released of axe robbery at Lakeside
Date posted: 30-07-2012
The attack happened when three men entered Goldsmiths shortly before 10:30am on Thursday, July 19 and threatened staff with a hammer and an axe forcing them to hand over approximately 30 Rolex watches valued at nearly £170,000.
The three men then ran out of the shop and drove off in a black Audi hatchback. A female member of staff sustained minor hand injuries during the attack, but did not require any treatment from paramedics.
Investigating Officer, Dc Joanne Borawski, said: “We’re releasing the CCTV in order to show the gravity of this armed robbery. These three men clearly had no concerns for the welfare of the staff or any customers when they burst into the shop, wielding an axe and frightening people. Although, it’s difficult to identify the man in the image we’re hoping that someone can help us with other elements of the investigation.”
The assailants were wearing dark clothing, hoodies and scarves.
A search of the area was conducted by armed police, supporting by their colleagues from the Air Support Unit.
The car was found abandoned on nearby Grifon Road a few hours after the robbery. Enquiries revealed that the Audi A1 had been stolen from a business in Marble Arch in west London on Monday, July 16.
Anyone with information in connection with this robbery is urged to contact detectives at Grays police station on 101.
