Road traffic figures show serious injuries down
Date posted: 02-08-2012
THURROCK Council has seen a significant reduction of road accidents in 2011, despite the news that nationally road accident figures have increased.
Accidents involving children who were killed or seriously injured reduced by 73% compared to 2010 and road accidents in general had also reduced by 10%.
This success is a result of programmed educational initiatives and road safety schemes delivered by Thurrock Council and their partner Europa which include Kerbcraft, Pedestrian training, Bikeability cycle training, Be Bright Be Seen, Twilight Trails as well as a focused programme of physical improvement measures on the local highway network.
Cllr Andy Smith, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Highways and Transportation said “Making safer roads for residents in Thurrock is one of the top priorities for the council and this result proves that by implementing schemes like this, we are heading in the right direction”
