THE BURMA Star Association’s annual VJ Memorial Service took place on Saturday 18 August at the rose garden in Orsett Village.

The service was conducted by The Reverend Ed Hanson.

The Lord Lieutenant of Essex and the Mayor of Thurrock attended the service, together with guests from military associations with their friends and families. This year two cadets, Connor England and Alex Cross also assisted the Lord Lieutenant of Essex in leading the Prayer of Remembrance.

The Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Yash Gupta said: “It is a great honour to be here today in marking the 67th Anniversary of VJ Day

“We know that the battles in the Far East were fought in brutal and harsh circumstances and thousands of brave men lost their lives who came out from Great Britain and the British Commonwealth. This Remembrance Day demonstrates the sacrifices and terrible hardships endured by our brave soldiers, are acknowledged and appreciated by our grateful nation.
