Time for Tea in Thurrock as borough gets set for coffee mornings

THERE’S nothing like a hot drink on a cold day, and that is exactly what visitors to Grays Beach Riverside Park were treated to last week when Muggy the mascot came to town.
The giant mug who was out and about promoting Macmillan Cancer Support’s upcoming fundraising event World’s Biggest Coffee Morning spent some time on the adventure playground before braving the wind and rain to head up to admire the view over the water.
World’s Biggest Coffee Morning will be taking place on Friday 28th September but events will be occurring across Essex throughout the month. Last year the event raised £10 million nationwide and the cancer charity are hoping to better that in 2012.
Annie McGrath, Essex Coffee Morning Intern, said “Bringing Muggy to Grays was fun despite the weather. It is always lovely to meet people who are interested in what we’re doing and what Macmillan does generally.
This is the 22nd year of World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and it is still growing, we are really hoping that people in Grays will get behind us and come together as a community to support the services we provide.”
Macmillan Cancer Support are perhaps most famous for their nurses but the services they offer also include information and support centres, financial advice, emotional support and campaigns to improve the experiences of cancer patients. “We turned 100 last year; over a century of supporting people through cancer is an achievement that should definitely be celebrated…and the best way is with cake obviously! By sharing a cup of coffee and a slice of cake with neighbours, colleagues or family members everyone can make a difference to the life of someone living with cancer,” added Annie.
