Gallery in the suburbs brings new dimension to art in Grays
Date posted: 29-10-2012
THURROCK artist, John Gathercole has converted his late father’s house in Victoria Avenue, Grays into an art gallery.
Called “Roncontemporary” in memory of Ron Gathercole, who passed away last year, the gallery had a recent opening.
John said: “The opening was a great success with a large turn out and lots of positive reaction. The Shell Room and SLJ Hall gallery spaces had a constant flow of people whilst the shop space was a hive of interest, showcasing six artists and six crafts people repectively.
There has been no constructed theme to this first event other than the linear one of promoting the artists and arts in Thurrock.
It has hopefully brought attention to the modern art scene evolving locally and this space provides an uncensored opportunity for artists to have their work seen and experienced by society.
The gallery is named and in memory of my late father and the spaces dedicated to those who have inspired and driven me this year and its been a way for me to show my appreciation so am pleased with the response i’ve had.
The opening also raised money for the British Heart Foundation, which will continue through out the galleries existence, with a donation submitted with every sale plus regular auctions.
The interest has led onto a series of forthcoming events at the gallery starting with
The Devils Advocaat Halloween show. 31st Oct-2nd Nov.
