THURROCK’S Director of People Services Jo Olsson is returning to London to take over as Director of Children, Schools and Families at Camden.
Jo joined Thurrock in October 2009 as corporate director of children’s services, later moving on to take up the reins of the people services directorate, incorporating children’s care, education, adult social services, public protection and public health.
Thurrock’s chief executive, Graham Farrant, said today (Tuesday, 5 February): “I would like to thank Jo for her unstinting work for the people of Thurrock in very difficult times.
“Jo has handled the pressures of a very wide portfolio of responsibilities during a period of unprecedented policy change and budget savings in style and will leave Thurrock very well placed for the future.”
He added: “I am delighted for her, and Camden are very fortunate to have secured her. I will be very sorry to lose Jo. She has made a huge contribution in Thurrock and I know many of her colleagues in the council, schools and health have valued working with her.
“Her presence in heading some of the most difficult services the council has to provide has been immense and her contribution and stability has been highly valued.”
Mr Farrant said he will be working with Jo, directors and heads of service, to determine the best possible interim arrangements, which should be announced next week.
Jo will be at Thurrock until the end of March.
