Thurrock Council Leader, Cllr John Kent, has welcomed the latest news about the Post Office in Grays.
Speaking on Monday (4 March) he said: “The council has today received a letter from the Post Office saying it will re-open on Monday, 11 March.”
The Post Office in Grays was forced to close temporarily at the weekend as the WH Smiths shop in the town closed permanently.
“This week the Post Office has been providing a free bus service from Grays to the Crown Post Office in South Ockendon, but as from this coming Monday we are told the Grays ‘service will re-open with a temporary agent’.
“Their letter confirms the ‘temporary’ agent will provide the same range of services, products and opening hours – Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 5.30pm – as previously.”
Cllr Kent – who met with Post Office representatives in February to highlight the importance of their services to the town – also said he was pleased to see the Post Office was working to “recruit a new permanent partner” and that “a potential new operator has been identified”.
He said he was hopeful the Post Office would follow through on a suggestion in their letter which suggests the service hours might be extended.
