THE well-established Stanford Music Festival comes of age this Saturday when it celebrates its 18th Birthday. First staged in 1999, where Queens English were the only group to perform from the back of a lorry in the High Street, it has progressed over the years to become probably the best free family friendly music festival in Essex.
This year sees even more attractions with a wide variety of food stalls to suit every taste, two beer trailers doing draft beers and spirits, the usual fun fair and also a play bus for the youngsters.
There are eight groups performing along with five solo artists and two DJ’s. Ultimate 80’s are the headline act seeing us out in the party mood.
The opening act is Red Alert, a group of 14 year olds that rocked the audition to become the winners of our recent Battle of the Bands contest.
They were chosen by the paying audience seeing off stiff competition for the other bands. By coincidence one of their members is the son of the lead singer from Queens English who as I said earlier opened the very first festival
So if you want a really family friendly event to suit all ages then come along this Saturday from 12.30 till 10.30 at The Mobil Field, Billet Lane, Stanford le Hope SS17 0AR.
