THURROCK residents are being offered a wheelie great alternative to a chocolate advent calendar this December that could not only help you burn calories but also win daily prizes.
The #Winter Wheelers advent calendar is part of a ‘Love to Ride’ campaign across south Essex which encourages residents to get on their bike throughout December to unlock cycling giveaways.
The promotion is available thanks to the South Essex Active Travel (SEAT) partnership between Essex County Council, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and Thurrock Council.
Prizes include winter cycling gear from leading innovative brands Proviz, Blaze and Torch, plus vouchers to buy a new bike at the winners’ chosen local bike shops.
All you have to do is register at lovetoride.net/southessex (it only takes a minute) and record your rides or sync an app so they are logged automatically.
Daily rides help unlock your advent windows and win you prizes, while also logging the calories you burn along the way.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Councillor, Tony Cox, representing South Essex Active Transport said: “Christmas is often an expensive time of year and also a time that we all indulge in some unhealthy treats.
“This campaign is all about encouraging cyclists to get active on their bikes and maybe even win an early Christmas present in the process.”
The national Winter Wheelers campaign is also available to riders outside of Essex. Log your rides from the 1st to 25th December to go in the draw for prizes from Proviz, Blaze and Torch. Love to Ride South Essex participants will also have the chance of winning top individual prize bundles for riding the most miles in December and encouraging the most people to ride.
Love to Ride’s Winter Wheelers is part of a programme of active travel activity being delivered in south Essex through Ideas in Motion, a three-year behaviour change project funded by the Department for Transport’s Access Fund. A collaboration between Essex County Council, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and Thurrock Council, Ideas in Motion aims to boost active travel in south Essex and link people up to education, training and jobs in the area that they might otherwise have considered out of their reach.
