Grays drug driver banned after controversial motorbike ride out

A drug-driver who was arrested following an unauthorised motorbike ride-out has been banned from driving.

Rhys Mayo was arrested on October 29 last year during a police operation to deal with disorder and anti-social behaviour caused by large groups of motorcyclists.

The 21-year-old of Lytton Road, Grays, was stopped by police at a petrol station on the A128 near Little Warley Hall Lane.

He had a quantity of cannabis in his possession and tested positive for the drug in a roadside drugs wipe test.

Mayo was summonsed to court to face counts of drug-driving and possession of cannabis.

He appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Wednesday, February 7, and pleaded guilty to both charges. For the drug-driving charge he was banned from driving for 14 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge. He was fined £50 for the drugs offence.

5 years hard Labour 7 days a week would be more appropriate for this offence.
