Summer Volunteering Opportunities with Thurrock Libraries – apply now!

THURROCK Libraries have an exciting volunteering opportunity for young people who can help introduce children to the joy of books as part of the Summer Reading Challenge.

Anyone aged between 13 and 18 years old who is looking for a volunteering opportunity during the summer holidays can take part.

The national Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year in libraries across Thurrock and is the ideal opportunity to have fun, gain new skills and get some fantastic experience to include on CVs.

Libraries are offering this enjoyable and rewarding role supporting library staff in running this year’s Summer Reading Challenge 2018, Mischief Makers.

Last year over 3,000 children in Thurrock took part in the challenge by reading books to gain rewards including stickers, certificates and even a medal. Volunteers enjoyed helping library staff sign up children to the Summer Reading Challenge, talking to children about their books and encouraging them to complete the challenge.

All volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 15 hours between 24 July and 4 September. They can choose up to two libraries to volunteer for so that every library can have some enthusiastic friendly volunteers to help out at busy times.

Application forms and role descriptions are available from libraries or from the Thurrock Council website at www.thurrock.gov.uk/volunteering. The closing date for applications is 29 June and training is provided in July after school.
