Tim Aker questions whether we will be royally betrayed over “Customs Partnership”

Tim Aker MEP

THE THURROCK Independent councillor for Aveley, Tim Aker, has warned against the government entering into a “Customs Partnership” as part of its plans for Brexit.

Cllr Tim Aker said: “Amid the joyous celebration coming with the Royal Wedding and the FA Cup final, look out for any buried bad news.

“For weeks now the issue of whether the UK enters into a ‘Customs Partnership’ with the EU after we ‘leave’ has been dangling over us. Soon we will know what the Government’s position is and whether our historic referendum vote was all for nothing.

Make no mistake, if the UK ‘leaves’ the EU and walks into a Customs Partnership with the EU, we will leave in name only.

You have heard it from the horses’ mouths. All Remain spokespeople said to leave was to walk away from the customs union and single market. Theresa May – when she wanted your vote – said that Brexit meant leaving the customs union and single market. Jeremy Corbyn was saying it for decades.

Yet they are both weak hostages to the political vandals lurking in their backbenches. They don’t want to listen to what you said. They want to sabotage the referendum and betray the will of 17.4 million people. Put that into context – that is the highest number of votes recorded for anything, ever, in the UK. It’s more than any political party has received at any General Election.

“A customs union means the same rules, collecting money for the EU, paying the EU contributions. There would be no option to make our own trade deals and most of our laws, again, would be written by someone else. It would be as far from taking back control as you could get. We would be going back into the EU.

Believe it or not, when I voted to leave the EU I knew exactly what I was voting for, after all it was a simple question, LEAVE or REMAIN. So, along with the 17.4 million others who voted to LEAVE, I take exception to those MPs who tell us we did not know what we were voting for and that we are so stupid we voted to impoverish the UK and make ourselves poorer.

We are now being told that a “Hard Brexit” will threaten the Northern Ireland Peace Agreement if we leave the Customs Union and there is a “Closed” border between Southern Ireland and Northern Ireland. In view of the current threat of terrorism it is imperative for the UK to control it’s borders and immigration. The scare-mongering MPs and their ilk should take note that a chain is only as strong as its’ weakest link and if you have an “open” border between S/Ireland and N/Ireland it is an “open door” for terrorists and illegal immigrants to enter other parts of the UK unmonitored.

Any “Deal” that restricts the UK in the control of it’s borders, immigration, freedom to trade with other countries, making it’s own laws, would be a betrayal of the wishes of the 17.4 million people who voted LEAVE in the referendum.

We voted unequivocally to leave the European Union. Lets make Britain Great again.
