Thurrock Council launches TuckIN scheme

Tuck In 1

ON Thursday 24 May Thurrock Council launched a new scheme to provide more choice when eating out for people who want to lead healthier lives.

The TuckIN scheme, which operates across Essex, aims to work with food businesses to deliver small, simple changes, to provide healthier food options. To be part of the scheme businesses must commit to reducing the amount of salt and sugar in the foods they make and to use oils with less saturated fats.

By signing up to the scheme, businesses will be able to increase the choice for customers, save money and make food better whilst still maintaining the same great taste. Businesses will also have access to free online nutritional training and visits from the TuckIN team to provide advice and support.

Thurrock is pleased to announce that six businesses have chosen to be early adopters prior to the launch:

South Essex College, High Street, Grays
Blackshots Cafe, Blackshots Lane, Grays
Fresh Fill Snack Bar, Orsett Road, Grays
Mr Pickwicks, Crammavill Street, Grays
Woody’s, Thurrock Garden Centre and Cafe, South Road, South Ockendon
Ramos, 3 St Johns Way, Corringham, Stanford Le Hope

Cllr James Halden, Portfolio Holder for Education and Health, said: “The TuckIN initiative is all about making businesses aware of the little things they can do to help our residents lead a healthy lifestyle.

Halden

Making just some small changes to what goes into the food we love can have a big impact on our health, and by having our businesses on-board and committed to this change is fantastic news.

With the advice the TuckIN team can provide to those local food businesses which sign up, I am confident that we can help to drive a positive change across the borough for the benefit of our people.”
