BBC Essex Premier Cup

Rayleigh Town may have had most of the possession against Kelvedon Social, but it was the hosts who were heading into the next round as they were leading 1-0 with twenty minutes to go. But Rayleigh then rallied, with Jack Long, Max Jones and Harry Talbot all hitting the target in the final fifteen minutes to see their side win the tie 3-1. Catholic United meanwhile had no such worries as they beat Little Oakley Res. 4-0.

Senior League Cup

Bishop’s Stortford Swifts are into the next round after Sam Coe, Daryl Doolan and Oliver Slater notched in their 3-1 success over Old Southendian. Kelvedon Hatch had a player sent off in their 3-1 win over Harold Wood Athletic, but goals from Theo Ola (2) and Stephen Willis made sure that it wasn’t to their disadvantage. Epping Town were reduced to nine men in their game with Great Baddow which was to their disadvantage though as they lost 3-2, with Daniel Garfinkle and Daniel Ezeorji’s goals being cancelled out by Great Baddow’s tally. Suley Zuhdu scored twice for Buckhurst Hill in their 4-0 win over Manford Way; Steve Townsend and Sonny Shilling also getting on the score sheet. Basildon Town and Leigh Ramblers had a right rollercoaster of a game that ended 4-4 after extra time. The penalty shootout saw five penalty misses before Miller stepped up to win the shootout 2-1 in Basildon Town’s favour.

Top played bottom as leaders Snaresbrook travelled to bottom-placed May & Baker E.C. Res and came away with all the spoils via a 2-1 win. Tyriquee Solomon and Michael Ikotun scored the goals which sees Snaresbrook now open a six point lead over Ramsden Scotia, who were beaten 2-1 by Rayleigh Town Res. James Nottage and Oliver Ventura the Rayleigh scorers; Richard Bishop the Ramsden scorer. Ramsden are now looking over their shoulder as third-placed Shenfield AFC scored five without reply at Old Chelmsfordians. Harry Bond scored for Galleywood in their 2-1 defeat at Frenford Res., while Steve Merrick supplied the Ongar Town goal in their 3-1 defeat at Herongate Athletic.

Division Two

Toby are top of Division Two after James Coleman’s goal was enough to secure all the points at Upminster. The 1-0 away win sees Toby three points clear at the top; with Shoebury Town and Runwell Sports remaining on their tail after winning their games on Saturday. Shoebury travelled to Harold Wood Athletic Res., who had started the day as leaders, but a brace from Domm Binns plus a goal from Scott Clark saw Shoebury Town win the game 3-1, moving them up to second with Harold Wood now down in fourth. Runwell Sports are up to third after a 1-0 win over Chingford Athletic courtesy of a Jordan Gregory goal. Down at the bottom of the table and it was defeats all around as firstly May & Baker E.C. ‘A’ were brushed aside by Lakeside who run out 11-0 winners. Drew Klessa-Smith notched five times; Sam Pettit bagged a hat-trick; Ryan Clark, Luke Quinton and Charlie Ashpole also hit the target in the rout. Ryan remain in the drop zone after they were beaten 7-2 at Rochford Town, while Newham United sit one place above Ryan after they were handed a 3-1 defeat by Beacon Hill Rovers.

Division Three leaders Westhamians kept their unbeaten league record intact after a 5-0 home win over Old Chelmsfordians Res. Lewis Lawrence scored twice with Danny Dobson, Kenny Liddiard and Andy Hunter also chipping in. Basildon Town Res. meanwhile won their first league game of the campaign, at a canter too, as Jake Bridgeman (2), Scott Cooper and Joseph Fogarty all hit the back of the net.
