THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle-Price has told constituents that she plans to vote for Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit Deal tonight (Tuesday).
Ms Doyle-Price said on Twitter: “The stakes are high. The public expect us to leave the EU on March 29th. If we do not pass the deal tonight we won’t. If we don’t leave then the damage to our politics will be seismic.
“MPs on all sides recognise the need to deliver Brexit. They should all back this deal tonight.”
Many believe the PM may lose the vote tonight as it appears the DUP and the group of Conservatives called the European Research Group (ERG) will vote against.
Ms Doyle-Price’s decision may not go down well with Thurrock voters, with over 74% having voted “Leave” back in 2016.
Among the responses to her statement on Twitter are:
“The deal does not deliver Brexit as voted for by your constituents.”
“Hello Jackie, I’m a member of the public and I don’t expect us to leave the EU on March 29th. Opinion polls consistently say most of the public don’t want to leave. But you already know that.”
“Time to stop sacrificing yourself for May’s unpassable deal and start trying to save your own seat. Back the #PeoplesVote (like the majority of your constituents do).”
“So I take it you are going to vote for this sell out even though Geoffrey Cox has said it not legally binding, nothing has changed.
“Sign up for this and then the ppl of Thurrock will never forgive you or the Conservatives. Let’s also not forget we also have a by-election in Aveley”.
