Labour leader slams Thurrock Council over William Edwards Ofsted report

THE leader of Thurrock Labour has questioned how much support the Tory-run Thurrock Council is giving to schools in the borough.

The comments come after William Edwards school was placed in the “Requires Improvement” category by government inspectors Ofsted.

Councillor Jane Pothecary said: “It is worrying that a school previously judged to be outstanding in 2010 has slipped to requires improvement.

Jane P

“We need to understand what’s concerning the inspectors about the way the school is run and we need to look at the support being offered by council.

“There has to be a joint effort to spur on school improvement but also maintain standards.

“We can’t just leave schools to get on with it. This again raises the question if the council has enough resource in the education department to fully support schools and our young people”.

Surely being an academy chain & paying their chief exec a massive salary ensures no need for the local authority to get involved??? The system seems to be working so well at schools across the borough…….

What a load of labour bulls**t.

Cllr Pothecary needs to have a look at how schools were performing under labour.

As a gentle reminder…schools in special measures, education director a failure, OFSTED then failed the whole education dept.

Ask McKinley he tried to duck it all back then.
