Tilbury 0 v 2 Lowestoft Town Attendance 134

RYMAN Premier side Lowestoft Town made cup progress with goals in each half over a battling Tilbury side.
With the opening fast and furious, Lowestoft took the lead after 5 minutes when a cross from Michael Frew fell to Joe Francis wide on the left. The winger took the ball forward to the bye line and crossed and Jack Defty’s powerful header was only parried by James Marrable and Frew followed up to pounce to send the loose ball back into the net. Seconds later Tilbury’s only chance of the half fell to Emiel Aiken whose header from Conor Mead’s cross was blocked on the line by Reynolds, but he knew very little about it.

Lowestoft continued to dominate and home keeper Marrable denied both Frew and Francis before the break. As the half came to an end, Defty saw his header from Ainsley’s cross dip just over the cross bar and a volley from a Henderson cross fly high over the top. The second half continued in a similar vein with Henderson setting up Gleeson whose low back flip shot passed though a crowded goal mouth and just past the post.

With the tempo of the game slowing down, it seemed just a matter of time before Lowestoft would increase their lead. A 25 yard Mitchell free kick hit the bar and rebounded down onto Marrable’s head and over the bar. On 75 an identical free kick from almost the same spot saw Lowestoft get their second goal. This time Mitchell’s free kick headed for the other corner of the net to leave Marrable well beaten.
On 77 the Trawlerboys switched off and allowed Aiken to set up Aaron Matthews who was left with a gaping goal but blazed wildly high over the bar and missed another chance shortly afterwards.
Lowestoft finished the game on top with Cunningham being denied a goal with his first touch as his shot was turned onto the outside of the post by Marrable who then denied Defty a well deserved goal from the last attack of the game.

Tilbury are next back in action next Saturday when they travel to Chertsey Town in the Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy.
