Ormiston Park Academy and South Essex College have formed a new sixth-form partnership to benefit local students.
Starting this September, the joint sixth form provision allows students living in Aveley and the surrounding area to access A Level and BTEC courses at the academy and combine their subject choice with subject choices from any of the South East colleges.
Student timetables have been co-ordinated so students can benefit from the expanding college facilities on several sites, whilst having a home base at the academy sixth form.
The academy already works very closely with South Essex College, who have been their partners since 2009.
Year 12 student ‘Ash’ has commented: “I love the fact that I can maintain an amazing choice of subjects and that I can take on the role as a prefect in the sixth form of the school I have had five great years in, yet go out and join South Essex College’s wonderful community where I am meeting new friends as well. I think I’ve got the best of both worlds.”
Vice Principal Nathan Hunnisett said: “Students sometimes find it difficult to make a sudden move from school into a new college. This gives them the opportunity of maintaining a presence in very familiar surroundings, yet at the same time developing confidence in a new college environment where they can work up to degree level.”
