A MAN has been hospitalised after he fell from a ladder earlier this morning (Wednesday, November 30).

The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) were alerted shortly after 9am to a report of a man who had injured himself after falling off a ladder in a windmill in Stifford Clays Road in Orsett.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “The man who we believe to be in his 50s sustained a back injury during the fall. Paramedics treated the man and gave him pain relieving drugs to ease the pain whilst they removed him with the help of the fire service from the fourth floor of the windmill.”

Gary added: “Paramedics worked extremely hard to remove the patient safely from the fourth floor down to the first floor which led onto a balcony where he was lowered down to ground level. Following this, he was taken to Basildon Hospital for further assessments.”

THE FIFTH Thurrock’s Future – Let’s Talk meeting provided a chance for the people of Orsett and the rest of the borough to quiz top councilors and council officers.

Held in the hall of Orsett Church of England Primary School on the evening of Wednesday (14 September) and facilitated by head teacher Mrs Lallie Godfrey, the meeting covered a wide range of subjects.

Thurrock Council Leader, Cllr John Kent, said afterwards: “I’ll admit a little disappointment at the numbers of people who came along, but they certainly provided us with a very interesting debate.”

Around 20 people joined Cllr Kent, members of the council’s cabinet along with chief executive Graham Farrant, directors and heads of service for the meeting.

Subjects raised included the pilot scheme for some councillors to spend £2,000 in their wards and funding for community forums; air quality across Thurrock; the council’s stance on a third Thames crossing, particularly the “Option C” route through Thurrock Green Belt and villages; refuse collections; how complaints to the council are handled; the future of a community hospital in Grays; sports facilities; educational attainment; and the question of “east-facing slip roads” to and from Lakeside from the A13.

Cllr Kent said: “I was really pleased to be able to reassure people in Orsett that we not only didn’t support ‘Option C’, we didn’t think a third crossing was necessary at all if the government either got rid of the crossing tolls altogether or installed number-plate recognition systems as well as improving Junction 30/31.”

Previous Thurrock’s Future – Let’s Talk meetings have been held in Stanford-le-Hope, South Ockendon, Tilbury and Little Thurrock. Two more are planned before the end of March when the pre-election period prevents the council organising such events involving councillors.

The news could be a bitter blow to Basildon South and East Thurrock MP, Stephen Metcalfe, who will have a fight on his hand to retain the seat having lost a swathe of blue voters.

THURROCK is set to have three MPs after the next General Election with the news that Orsett, Bulphan and Horndon on the Hill could join the Brentwood and Ongar constituency.

The proposed changes are outlined in the Boundary Commission for Englands (BCE) report published today. The proposals could see the number of constituencies fall from 650 to 600.

The news could be a bitter blow to Basildon South and East Thurrock MP, Stephen Metcalfe, who will have a fight on his hand to retain the seat having lost a swathe of blue voters.

Mr Metcalfe won the seat last year with a majority of 5,772 however it is estimated that around 1200-1500 votes came from the Orsett area alone.

His seat will now be called Basildon and Thurrock East. Corringham and Fobbing, East Tilbury, Stanford East and Corringham Town, Stanford-le-Hope West and The Homesteads remain in the constituency.

The proposals could mean that Communities Secretary Eric Pickles will become the third MP to have a constituency with voters from the Thurrock area.

The Eastern region has been allocated 56 constituencies – a reduction of two from the current arrangement.

Their proposals leave nine of the 58 existing constituencies unchanged.

The reasons for the proposed changes have been explained by the BCE.

They said: “We noted that the electorate of the existing Epping Forest constituency is too small and we propose to include the Lambourne ward of the District of Epping Forest (which has direct road links into the rest of the constituency) from the existing Brentwood and Ongar constituency.

“To compensate for this change, we propose that the existing Brentwood and Ongar constituency be extended southwards to include the Orsett ward of the Borough of Thurrock.

Thurrock remains unchanged.

The decisions are not set in stone. The BCE are consulting on their initial proposals for a 12-week period, from 13 September 2011 to 5 December 2011.

They said: “We encourage everyone to use this opportunity to contribute to the design of the new constituencies – the more public views we hear, the more informed our decisions will be when analysing all the views we receive.”

You can find more details of how to respond on their website, or you can write to them direct or email eastern@bcommengland.x.gsi.gov.uk.

You can also find details of where and when they will be holding public hearings in their area on the website.

A BARMAN was in hospital last night after what appears to be a bizarre accident behind the bar at the Orsett Show.

The incident occured around 8pm last night as staff from the stalls mingled on the eve of the show.

It appears that a loud bang was heard and the 24-year-old bar man was found writing in agony with blood pouring from a wound.

On closer examination it appears that the wound had an entry and exit wound.

He was taken to hospital and the tent was cleared.

The tent remained a scenes of crime right throughout the Saturday until 5.30pm.

Both police forensic investigators and members of the health and safety executive remained at the scene.

Although initial reports were that the man was “shot” through the leg, some sources have suggested that this was a pin from a fire extinguisher and so some form of bizarre work related injury.

ORGANISERS of the Orsett Show this Saturday have their fingers crossed for the best ever show in fantastic weather.

The weather forecast looks good as they hope that the crowds can pass 15,000.

This year there is a free bus service to and from the show, in the village’s showground.

The show will have its wide variety of activities and displays covering a huge area as well as helicopter rides.

YT’s Mike Jones will be there as usual, making his specially commissioned films that have become a tradition in the YT calendar.

For full show listings, as well as the free bus service timetable, go online to www.orsettshow.co.uk

The Fun Day was organized by the Orsett Hall and The Partyman Company and was a huge success.

There was so much to do for the whole family including an Inflatable Village, Face Painters, BBQ, Bar, Quad Bikes, Trampolines, Surf Simulator, Tribute Acts, Psychics, Twirlers, Dancers, Craft Stalls, Swing Boats, a Laser Tag Maze and much, much more. Jimbo the Partyman entertained the audience of over 350 people in the Pavilion at his show which was full of Jimbo magic!

It really was a great day and excellent value for money which was something that so many people commented on.

This was the third Fun Day that Partyman and Orsett Hall have organized and the message really is that it is a great day out that does not cost you a fortune. There were lots of smiling faces on the young and the old as the crowds took advantage of the first dry day in Thurrock for days!

The organisers would like to thank everyone for coming along today and hope to see you all again at the next Fun Day at the Orsett Hall in May 2012! For more information, visit the website www.thepartymancompany.co.uk or www.orsetthall.co.uk.
