HIGH House Production Park is delighted to present its first outdoor sculpture exhibition showcasing the work of five international artists: Antony Gormley, Steven Gregory, Marcus Kleinfeld, Tim Morgan and Jilly Sutton. Friday 13th saw the start of their new arts and crafts club. Running every Friday between 10am and 12 noon, people can get together and share a whole range of craft activities, have a cup of tea and a biscuit, meet new people and maybe learn a new skill.

THE FIRST STEPS towards the restoration and regeneration of the State Cinema in Grays were taken yesterday at the planning meeting of the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (DC). The DC granted approval for the building consent to carry out a programme of works to the Grade II* listed building which will enable it to be used as a mixed use venue for leisure purposes.
A meeting is being held on Thursday 19th January at 8pm for anyone interested in getting fair trade in Stanford and Corringham “off the ground” in 2012. The meeting will be at the 24-7 Stanford community house at 217 Southend Road, Stanford-le-Hope, and anyone is welcome to attend.

CHADWELL ST MARY teenager, Bridie Philpott passed away at the weekend after losing her long fight against degenerative disorder, Battens disease. The tragic story of how first her brother John contracted the disease which strikes at the immune system followed by his sister struck the heart of many in the borough.
HORNDON resident and economics guru, Andrew Sentance has been made a Commander of the British Empire in the Queen’s New year honours list.
Cambridge-educated Mr Sentance came to prominence through his work at the Bank of England where he became known a “the arch hawk” on the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee reports the FT.

IT WAS A heartening sight as family members called in on their loved ones who are now residents at Leatherland Lodge in South Ockendon. It can also be a tough time. YT spoke to one relative, Sue about the care, entertainment and general spirit provided by the home, which is part of Runwood Homes.
Christmas dinner at Hyde Hall got our members in the Christmas spirit and for our meeting, there were many twinkling ladies, bring plates of festive food. Irene Arney was thanked for reading at the Thames Group Carol service, which was in the somewhat isolated and wind-blown St. Catherine’s Church at East Tilbury. Janet McCheyne played the organ, which luckily was audible over the wind!
Pc Dave Dunn, who is based at Basildon and front man for band Coldfire, held the event back in November at Corringham Village Hall to raise money for Cancer Research UK. 250 people attended the event, and a staggering £2,000 was raised for the worthwhile charity.
A number of students walked down to the sheltered housing complex at Kynoch Court to sing carols, deliver hampers as well as sit and chat to the borough’s more senior residents. The residents were delighted and heaped praise on the students for their wonderful singing and impeccable manners.
