FREE WiFi is now available at intu Lakeside, allowing shoppers to keep up-to-date with the latest news, check sports scores, update social networks and even stream video on the go. After laying 1200km of fibre optic cable, installing 183 antennas and testing the network for three weeks, shoppers can now surf while they shop at intu Lakeside – and it won’t cost them a penny.
INTU Lakeside is delighted to be helping women and men find the perfect pair of jeans and have teamed up with Cosmopolitan, the national women’s magazine, to offer an exclusive styling event – Jean Genie – from 26-28th April. Inspired by the styles seen on the likes of Rihanna, Jay-Z and Cameron Diaz, Jean Genie will treat shoppers to a unique styling experience for FREE, with expert stylists on hand to help shoppers solve their denim dilemmas. They’ll also be able to pick up some extra ideas on how to complete the look, including shoes and accessories from the stores within intu Lakeside.
INTU Lakeside lifted the spirits of a group of construction-mad youngsters last week when they were given the chance to ‘drive’ one of Europe’s largest cranes. With a 138 meter boom and the ability to lift up to 600 tons, the adventurous youngsters got to see the monster piece of machinery up close and sit at the controls.

TWELVE students from local schools spent last week with Essex Fire Authority learning new skills, self discipline and responsibility, thanks to funding by Lakeside Shopping Centre.
The “Firebreak” scheme combines practical skills with scenario based training promoting teamwork, leadership and motivation. £4,000 worth of funding from Lakeside has enabled 12 students from The Ockendon School; Ormiston Park Academy; William Edwards; The Harris Academy and The Grays School to attend a week-long course at Corringham fire station.
SUPERNANNY Jo Frost will be signing her latest book at Waterstones in Lakeside on Friday. Jo is the star of Channel 4’s Supernanny and Extreme Parental Guidance series which have become a god-send to parents with challenging children.
SHOPPERS at Lakeside were stopped in their tracks when three different flash mobs wowed the crowds and raised money for charity. Local Bokwa groups surprised shoppers early in the morning and, throughout the afternoon, local Rock Choir members sung their hearts out and Southend street dance crew Designed Kaos performed to raise money for Comic Relief.
SHOPPERS are being advised to keep their eyes peeled for some fun and surprising events in the Central Atrium at Lakeside this Saturday.
“Comic Relief is coming up on 15th March so we have some exciting events planned for our shoppers this weekend,” hinted Izzie Peskett, Marketing Manager for Lakeside. “We can’t reveal exactly what they are yet – we wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise – but we can guarantee lots of fun, high energy and some surprising sights.”
IT’S not often that a company asks people to take its money, but that’s exactly what Lakeside is doing as it seeks new nominations for its Heart of the Community campaign. Designed to support local charities, community groups and other good causes, Lakeside’s Heart of the Community fund gives £500 to two local charities every month. In 2012, 24 diverse and deserving causes were supported, ranging from hospitals to pre-schools, scout groups to food banks.
ARE you into the re-branding of Lakeside? Because after 22 years, the shopping centre is tweaking its name to intu Lakeside. The name change is part of the owner’s (Capital Shopping Centre’s £25 million rebranding of 12 of its 15 centres.
LAKESIDE has welcomed a new Marketing Manager to its four-strong marketing team at the shopping centre in Essex. Izzie Peskett joins the team from Capital & Regional PLC; with over 12 years’ experience in the retail and property sectors.
In addition to the arrival of Forever 21, Specsavers also recently chose Lakeside for its first regional shopping centre store, which opened in November. Schuh opened one of its first Schuh Kids shops in Lakeside the month before, taking an additional unit for the new design next to its existing shop. Local retailer Linzi Shoes also proved the success of footwear in Lakeside by upsizing to a larger shop in the summer.
The shopping centre has invested heavily in brand new equipment for Shopmobility through a partnership with South East Mobility. Mobility scooters now range from the mini “Prism“ to the mid-sized “Neo”, right up to the luxury “Aviator” so Shopmobility users will be able to find the right one for them to explore the shops at Lakeside. Brand new electric and manual wheelchairs are also available.
TO mark the start of the festive period, Lakeside commissioned fashion student Katherine Massey to create a dress that would help any fashionista stand out from the crowd this Christmas. The couture dress, designed and created by Katherine in conjunction with Lakeside, is made from over 5,000 fresh holly leaves and certainly has the wow factor.
POLICE are once again working in partnership with Lakeside in the busy run up to Christmas to ensure shoppers have an enjoyable, crime-free shopping experience. Officers from the Lakeside policing team will join forces with Lakeside security to step-up the patrol of the centre and car parks to make sure the thousands of daily visitors have the best possible shopping trip.
CHRISTMAS has well and truly arrived as Santa, his elves and a host of other characters paraded through Lakeside on Thursday night. They paraded around the shopping centre much to the delight and joy of young children and parents.
ENTRY to the whole event is completely free and, at the end of the parade, Santa will declare his Lakeside grotto “open” for the festive season! The Lakeside grotto experience includes a 3D cinema (with a brand new film for this year) and a gift for every child* – and the entire experience is still completely free!
RIDING for the Disabled’s free sessions provide therapy plus a huge sense of achievement and enjoyment to people with disabilities. The Bambers Green group caters for local individuals as well as groups of school children with special needs from Harlow who enjoy riding the horses, gain confidence, new skills and connect with the animals in a positive way.
LAKESIDE is offering families FREE Halloween-themed fun between 11am and 5pm every day from 29th October to 2nd November.
There’ll be spooky monster stories told by Lakeside’s very own monsters at 11am, 1pm and 3pm every day, lantern decorating and a mini bag of spooky sweets for Little Lake Monster Club members – all for free!

Local lad Olly Murs visited Lakeside yesterday to meet his fans and sign copies of his new book, Happy Days. Over 2,500 excited fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the X Factor star in Lakeside’s Central Atrium, and 400 lucky shoppers who queued up with copies of the book got to meet the man himself.
