Big Brother Brian Belo quits Thameside Panto

BIG BROTHER star, Brian Belo has quit the Thameside pantomine. The reality TV star had been missing from the pantomime Aladdin since the latter part of last week.

Aladdin-tastic is a smash hit at the Thameside

One of the highlights of the show is the singing of Slave of the Ring, Shona Damms. Shona is not only affable as a TOWIE-alike slave but can really belt out a number. But the real glue that sticks the panto together is former EastEnders star, Dean Gaffney. One thought he would be a little detached but he really really warms into the role of Wishee Washee and is the star of the second half.

Panto cast hit Lakeside and Sainsburys (and tickets are selling fast)

The cast of Aladdin enjoyed a whirlwind shopping trip around Thurrock on Saturday. They visited Sainsburys Chafford Hundred, where they shopped for chocolates, helped pack shopping bags and entertained the crowds before they were whisked off in a golden limo to Partyman World in Lakeside and then into Lakeside itself! They met lots of people along the way and posed for photos with the shoppers and did some shopping for themselves – Widow Twankey could not believe all the goodies she found and has already asked for a return visit!

Cast of Aladdin enjoy their visit to The Garden Restaurant at Orsett Hall

THE cast of Aladdin recently enjoyed a visit to Orsett Hall’s lovely Garden Restaurant as a special treat. They were very impressed with the ambience and fantastic menu and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Widow Twankey was a big fan of the deserts and booked to come back for a special Champagne Afternoon Tea with the Genie during a break from Panto performances.

Dean Gaffney looking forward to Thameside panto

The 2011/2012 pantomime at the Thameside Theatre, Grays is Aladdin starring Dean Gaffney (from EastEnders and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here) as Wishee Washee and Brian Belo (Winner of Big Brother 8 and Presenter of Big Brother’s Little Brother) as the Genie and Wain Douglas as Widow Twankey! It runs for 53 performances between Wednesday 7 December 2011 to Wednesday 7 January 2012.

The connection with the discoveries of a Saxon settlement at Mucking was highlighted by Jonathan Catton, Thurrock Council’s Heritage and Museum officer as he welcomed visitors to the performance. “I am sure this poem was recited in the timber halls on the Mucking site and I can envisage some drinking from the fabulous glass beakers which were discovered in the graves on the site.

Youth Theatre scoop festival award

THURROCK Youth Theatre took their play “Downfall Of An Uprising” to Brentwood Drama Festival last week and won the Youth section. Of the eight individual awards presented last Saturday, five of them went to TYT members, Michael Harris, JamesBurgess, Ben Ward, AlexLawler and Judi Cordingley.

Jazz Orchestra at Thameside tomorrow

The Thameside Theatre will be filled with the sounds of some very cool jazz on Saturday 13 August when past members of the former Thurrock Youth Jazz Orchestra (TYJO) will be reuniting to perform a special one-off concert. This will be the first time in almost four years that the musicians have come together to play which will be led by former musical director and one of the leading jazz saxophonists in the country, Zak Barrett.

When you’re blue and you don’t know where to go-try the Thameside

Thurrock’s Operatic, under the artistic direction of Ann Sullivan bring together the songs, the dance routines and over 100 costumes to tell this tale for a one day pit stop performances at the Thameside on Sunday 24th July. With local singers taking to the stage alongside a line up of experienced dancers there’s a mix of ballads, tap dance routines, romantic love songs, and comic duets that Irving Berlin was worldly know for. Songs from the classic musical Annie Get Your Guns, as well as songs perforemed by the legendary Al Jolson mingle with the sparked colour of glitz and glamorous costumes.

Thameside beats to sound of bhangra

Locals were united by music, dance and an air of excitement as some of the biggest stars in bhangra dance and music took to the stage in their town. Organiser and local business woman, Meena Mitra has a passion for music and dance and believes that big stars should be available to local communities as it helps unite the community. She believes that ‘music brings people together.’
