Three crews went to the Mardyke Bridge Crossing in Ship Lane, Aveley

Firefighters tackled sic firers all lit in the same field. Crews had extinguished three of the fires by 23:54 with the remaining three being extinguished by 00:14hrs.

The cause of the fires has been recorded as deliberate.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels and a dry powder extinguisher to tackle a blaze in a mid terraced house.

Firefighters arriving at the scene reported that 10 per cent of the property was alight and 80 per cent heavily smoke logged.

The fire involved an electrical cupboard.

An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.

No casualties were reported.

Fire crews were called to a report that two tonnes of manure on fire on One Tree Hill in Corringham on Saturday afternoon (May 11th).

Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire by 15:00hrs.

The fire was in the single storey old school room.

The fire was out by 14:40 hrs. Crews then used a high pressure fan to clear the building of smoke.

A joint Police and Fire Service investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the incident.

Update: Crews dealt with the incident by 19:33hrs.

Divisional Officer Neil Fenwick reports:

“Crews wearing breathing apparatus and using a foam branch have been tackling the fire in the rim seal on the roof of the storage container.

“The work of the fire crews and the deluge systems within the tank contained the fire and it has been contained to the one storage tank which did not contain any product and was empty, the tank has been under maintenance.”

16:45 hrs:

Assistant Divisional Officer Mark Turnbull reports that crews are using a covering jet to extinguish the fire in the rim seal of the tank.

The incident commander is currently assessing levels of resources.

It is likely that appliances may be turned back.

There are no reported casualties and no-one has been evacuated at this stage.

TWELVE FIRE Crews are tackling an incident involving a diesel storage tank in the Vopak terminal in Oliver Road, West Thurrock. The tank involved is empty but was used to store diesel. Firefighters have launched a major foam attack.

Appliances from across the county have been sent to the scene. 12 pumps, some 60 firefighters, along with specialist appliances carrying foam and hose are part of the pre-determined attendance to this type of site. An aerial ladder, rescue tender and incident command unit have also been sent to the scene.

FIRE crews have been called to a fire in a ground floor flat. Crews report the property is heavily smoke logged. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and are using two hose reels to tackle the fire.

CREWS report that the fire is now out. Firefighters in breathing apparatus are working inside the static bungalow cutting away parts of the roof to ensure all of the hotspots are fully extinguished and are expected to remain on site for some time yet.

Assistant Divisional Officer Martyn Hodder said: “The fire broke out on a site where fairground families are living. The fire involved a mobile caravan and a neighbouring static bungalow, as well as a nearby fuel tank which ruptured spilling fuel which also ignited.

“An elderly female resident was treated for the affects of smoke inhalation very early on in the fire but fortunately there were no other casualties.

“The fire broke out in the mobile caravan and quickly spread to the nearby bungalow. Firefighters did an excellent job in bringing the family’s valuable possessions out of the bungalow to protect them from fire and then in containing flames within the building. Although the caravan was destroyed, the bungalow is only 25 per cent fire damaged and was saved.

“Crews were hindered by a lack of water. The water bowser is part of the normal attendance for this site because of the known shortage of water so that was sent to the scene immediately the call came in and once it arrived was put into use immediately.

“The fire has been out for about 30 minutes. The work remaining is in the roof structure of the bungalow where crews are using small tools to cut away in the eves to make sure all hotspots are out.”

We have no information relating to the cause of the incident at this stage.

Update: 0800hrs

The incident commander reports that the incident has now been sectorised and that the water bowser has been set up and is in operation as crews, wearing breathing apparatus, work to bring the fire under control.

0700 hrs

FIRE CREWS are using four hose reels to tackle a blaze involving two mobile homes.

The incident occurred at Clarence Way, Buckles Lane, South Ockendon.

Initially two appliances were sent to the scene and then shortly afterwards a third. With a shortage of water in the area, the water bowser from Chelmsford was also ordered to the scene along with a hose layer from Rayleigh Weir.

At 06:18 hrs, the incident commander reported that a shortage of water was hampering firefighting operations and a fourth appliance was requested.

Crews report that the fire had spread from one mobile home to a second with the complication of a fuel tank close by.

Firefighting operations continue.

Crews have declared the scene safe and the hazard zone has now been removed meaning both the railway line and roads have re-opened.

Update 13:15hrs:

A 200 metres exclusion zone has been established and Essex Police called in for traffic control.

Trains on the Fenchurch Street Line have been stopped as a result of the exclusion zone.

Update: 1240 hrs

Owing to a lineside fire between Tilbury Town and East Tilbury; Trains: 1150 Southend Ctl – Fenchurch St via Ockendon will divert via Basildon.

Network Rail are alongside Fire Service.

Buses have been despatched but may take time to get on schedule.

FIRE CREWS are tackling a fire involving a large pile of tyres near to the Tilbury Fort.

Crews are wearing breathing apparatus and using two hose reel jets and one foam jet to tackle the fire.

Because of the remote location a water relay – in which fire engines take it in turns to leave the site to replenish their on board water supplies – is in use.

Update: The incident commander has reported that the fire involves a number of cylinders including an acetylene cylinder.

A hazard zone is being established around the incident.

Crews arriving at the scene reported that the caravan was well alight and that propane cylinders were involved in the fire.

At 03:21 hrs, the incident commander reported that firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were using one main jet and two hose reels to tackle the blaze.

The cylinders surrounding the caravan had been cooled and removed to safety and there was no other risk close by.

The electricity had been isolated and firefighting operations continued.

At 03:35 hrs, crews reported that the fire was now surrounded and steady progress was being made in bringing the incident under control.

The incident was dealt with by 03:53 hrs.

Crews got there at just after 2.30am to Hume Close in Tilbury.

The incident commander reported that the fire involved 10 vehicles and surrounding tyres in an area measuring 15 by 25 metres.

Crews had the fire surrounded by 03:28 and using two foam jets and one hose reel jet had completely extinguished the blaze by 03:28hrs.

The crash happened on the Chadwell Road at 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon (March 24th).

Crews had released the woman by 14:18hrs using one set of cutting equipment.

The woman was left in the care of the ambulance service.

Firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the fire in the timber framed postbox attached to a wall of the property.

Crews arriving at the scene reported that the communal hallway was full of smoke.

Everyone was accounted for by 20:04 and there were no casualties. The fire was quickly extinguished and then crews used a high pressure fan to clear the building of smoke.

A fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the incident.

The incident occurred at 10am on Saturday morning (March 16th) on the A13 London bound between Orsett Cock and Dock Approach turn offs.

A second casualty had been released before the arrival of ECFRS crews.

The casualty was cut free by 10:31 hrs and left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

All of the staff and children evacuated the school quickly and efficiently and there were no injuries.

The fire broke out at approximately 13:20 in the school’s drama studio.

Two members of staff heard a small explosion and saw flames. They sounded the alarm. Staff led the 270 pupils to safety, following the tested procedures.

The school caters for young people between the ages of 3 and 19 with moderate learning difficulties and autism.

The Essex Fire Service attended the scene quickly with a number of appliances. As fire doors had been closed the damage was limited to the drama studio and the main school hall. However, the extent of the damage to those areas is quite severe.

The school will remain closed to pupils until Monday March 18th. Surveyors from Thurrock Council will be attending, once the Fire Service has completed its investigations.

Early suggestions are that the fire was caused by an electrical installation but the investigation is still underway.

Head teacher, Paul Smith said: “The children realised it was a real situation and they behaved impeccably. There was no panic and the staff of the school were marvellous. We regularly have fire drills and this really paid off.

“There was a lot of smoke billowing from the roof of the school hall and we feared that it would spread. But because all of the fire doors were properly closed meant that the fire was contained.”

The children were evacuated to the sports field before going to the Treetops and Beacon Hill schools’ sixth form building.

“Everybody did exactly what you hoped they would do, “ Mr Smith said. “I am very proud of the whole staff, our neighbours at Beacon Hill and of course our pupils.”
