The officer in charge reported that the first floor of the house was completely smoke logged.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using three jets to tackle a fire in a large shed measuring 5m x 4m in the back garden of a house in Sabina Road, Chadwell St Mary.

They are using a ground monitor to cool an LPG cylinder inside.

The fire was put out by 11pm.

The property measures 30 x 15 metres and crews reported it is well alight. Firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

Update 07:03hrs: Fire crews surrounded the fire and used three hose reels to extinguish the blaze. The electricity board has been requested to the incident.

Update: The fire was extinguished by 07:55hrs. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

At 09:02 hrs, the officer in charge reports that the incident involves a diesel power digger inside an open cargo hold. The fire appears to be out but firefighters are standing by awaiting removal of the digger. The crew of the vessel has been removed to a place of safety.

At 09:10 hrs, firefighters were using a thermal image camera in the hold to check for hotspots in the digger before it can be lifted off. They are standing by with one main jet.

The incident happened at just after midday on Sunday in Fobbing Road, Corringham

Firefighters were called to a fire in the kitchen and reports that the cooker was on fire. The fire was out on arrival before the fire crews arrived.

Station Officer Geoff Wheal from Corringham Fire Station said:

“Essex County Fire and Rescue Service had fitted the property with a smoke alarm approximately six months ago. The smoke alarm alerted the 73 year old resident that there was a fire in her kitchen. The lady had been cooking her Sunday dinner and had not heard her cooker timer go off on the oven as she had been watching TV in another room. Thankfully the smoke alarm went off in the hallway alerting her to the fire and she called 999.

Station Officer Wheal added: “A smoke alarm provides you with a vital early warning system that a fire has started in your home, giving you time to get out of your property and call the Fire Service.”

Crews wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels to extinguish the fire by 02:16hrs. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, ECFRS will carry out an investigation.

No one was trapped or injured as a result of the collision in Edmund Road and the gas supply had been isolated before crews arrived.

Firefighter made the vehicle safe and stood by at the scene until gas engineers arrived to make sure the gas supply to the pipe was fully isolated.

They left the scene at 16:37hrs.

Around 120 people were evacuated from the Ibis hotel in West Thurrock at 1 am this morning (Tuesday) because smoke from the fires was going into the building.

An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire

Fire crews were called out at 1.30 am this morning (Monday) to Hume Avenue, Tilbury.

When firefighters arrived they found five cars and a van were all well alight.

The fire had been extinguished by 02:18hrs.

The cause of the fire has been recorded as deliberate.

Crews were called out at just after 2am this morning (Friday) to Devall House in Argent Street, Grays.

Crews were called to a 14-storey block of flats after a smoke detector went off raising the alarm.

Four appliances were sent to the scene – a pre-determined attendance for high rise properties.

On arrival at the scene, crews reported smoke coming from a ground floor flat but no sign of fire. They were able to raise the occupant of the flat involved who confirmed cooking had been left unattended.

The woman, believed to be in her 60s, was suffering mild smoke inhalation and an Ambulance crew was called to the scene.

Firefighters administered oxygen therapy to the casualty while awaiting the Ambulance Service.

A high pressure fan was used to clear the flat of smoke and the property was made safe before crews left the scene at 02:42 hrs.

2020hrs: Firefighters are using one hose reel to tackle the blaze, which they report as having one small seat of fire but buried deep in the woodchip pile.

At 21:17 hrs, crews report steady progress is being made. An industrial digger is being used to help firefighters uncover the seat of the fire.

Four appliances, an aerial ladder platform and a hose layer were sent to the scene as part of ECFRS’ pre-
determined attendance for incidents at the Docks.

At 21:17, the incident commander stood down the aerial ladder plaform, hose layer and support pump. At 21:30 hrs, three appliances remained at the scene.

The incident was dealt with by 21:32 hrs.

Crews had dealt with the incident by 09:03hrs.

Station Officer Geoff Wheal from Corringham Fire Station said: “The car appears to have left the roadway after sliding on a patch of ice. The car had rolled on its side into a garden and the 18 year old driver was trapped.

Fire crews used cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle to release him.

“At this time of year motorists need to take care on icy roads. Ice can be hard to see and as incidents like this show the effect of sliding on a patch of ice can be devastating.

“As the cold weather really begins to bite we will be seeing more and more icy roads throughout the county and motorists will need to make sure they take extra care and slow down a bit, especially on back roads.”

The incident occurred during rush-hour, around 5.30pm.

Firefighters, removed the roof of the vehicle to rescue the woman who was then placed inthe care of ther ambulance service.
