Its an impressive set up as well as the club really tries to progress youngsters through the ranks. New nets and some excellent hands on coaching means Friday nights are busy for the youngsters.

Skipper Reid won the toss and decided to bat on a pitch that had been dampened by overnight rain. The outfield was slow and Orsett made heavy work of batting on a slow pitch and found themselves in trouble early on, losing four quick wickets. The tempo quickened somewhat when Jason Plom was joined by Stuart Moon and the score started to tick over,when both were out Plom for 31 and Moon for 22, Ilford scented blood. However, these days Orsett refuse to roll over and have people who can bat in the lower order. Witness the splendid partnership of Khan and Mendes who started to pepper the boundary boards and car park with a mixture of fours and sixes. Both were unbeaten Khan on 43 and Mendes on 23 when the innings closed with the total on a respectable 201-7.

Ilford also started slowly but continued to chip away at the Orsett total and the home side struggled to get wickets against two determined openers. Medium pacer Landman was introduced to the attack and his steady bowling soon accounted for both openers. At the other end Polyblank induced an edge from the Ilford captain and Reid made a great slip catch to dismiss a dangerous batsman. Ilford then started to struggle to keep pace with the required score and when Mendes returned to the attack, they found themselves struggling to avoid defeat. Wickets fell quickly and Ilford struggled to 177-8, with Mendes taking an impressive 4-45.

Skipper Nick Henry’s ruthless decision to bowl first on what looked to be a flat deck at North Stifford nearly backfired as the Belhus opening batsmen took 18 from the first two overs. However Orsett quickly turned things around as Potter and Reader picked up a wicket apiece, stemming the flow of runs. At this stage Jonathon Gordon was introduced to the attack and quickly made inroads, devastating the Belhus middle order with an impressive spell of 4-27. He was ably assisted by Sam Proctor and Brad Walker and Belhus eventually declared at 155-9.
The total was never enough against and in-form Orstt batting side who efforts were not helped by skipper Nick Henry seeming to pick a dubious hand injury during the tea break. However, this enabled vice captain Lee Kooyman the opportunity to open with Shakeel. They preceeded to get off to a steady start with Shakeel making 41 and Kooyman 48. It was left to Ryan Plom to see the innings through with a tidy 45 and Kirk Laws hitting the winning runs for Orsett. Orsett hope this form continues with a trip to Woodford Green on Saturday.

After been put into bat and loosing the first wicket of Apurv Sehgal for 1 Orsett 3rd XI dug in and started to make use of a very easy paced track with Lewis Lockyer scoring 43, Rob Pavitt 42 and Mark Pavitt 48. This pushed the score along at a reasonable rate, thus allowing the middle order to go for their shots and explosive hitting from skipper Ian Lockyer 83n.o and Chaiman Dave Kooyman 37n.o. enabled Orsett to declare for an impressive 266-5.
Hornchurch gave a good account of themselves and looked in the hunt for victory by geting off to a quick start with help of opener M. Keanly 81. But wickets soon fell at regular intverals which meant Hornchurch had to fight hard for the draw. A marathon bowling spell from new comer John Morris returned a second five wicket haul in as many weeks finishing with figures of 5-61 from 21 overs, although he was supported very well with wickets from James Page 3-34 and some good feilding from the rest of the team.

Orsett worked really hard in difficult conditions to bowl Noak Hill out cheaply with George Pavitt taking 1-10, Nathan Smith 2-25 and Dan Ashford putting in a good opening spell. In the middle overs it was important that Orsett continued this and Terry Pound did just that taking 3-26 and Mike Harding 3-11 bowling Noak Hill out for 127, a total which Orsett knew would be tricky in the conditions. In reply Orsett got off to a good start with Ben Smith making 29 and Kirk Laws falling for 49, but Noak Hill took quick wickets in the middle and left Orsett in some bother but Lee Kooyman and George Pavitt saw the game home for Orsett.

They were delighted to welcome Charlie Curtis of the Veolia Community Trust ,the secretary Andy Furze and ex Essex and England Cricketer Mark Illott.
There’s lots happening at this excellent cricket facility and all credit to those forward thinking people who worked on this project.

With Prague in mind the club are hoping to confine their visit to the local area with a two day game against a Thurrock X1 (playing as England) v Prague CC (as the Czech Republic).

Grays and Chadwell set a healthy score of 110 – 5 in 12 overs but Stanford marched to victory with a score of 114-1

Stanford finished on 105 points as did Pegusus and Corringham however Stanford took 33 wickets to P & C’s 29.
