Baby Hospitalised After Struck By Lorry

Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident at about 8.30 am on Monday, February 15 which resulted in a mother and her five-month- old baby being knocked to the floor.

The 37-year-old local woman was walking along London Road towards Purfleet pushing her daughter in a buggy when she was struck from the rear by part of a load that was shed by a passing goods vehicle. The load contained several rolls of flexible black plastic piping.

Mum and baby were taken to Basildon Hospital where they were treated and released. The mother sustained bruising and the baby is believed to be fine, but is undergoing further tests.

The lorry and driver have been identified having returned to the scene.

  1. Very narrow escape for the mother and child as this could have been so much worse, I assume that the lorry driver concerned is being investigated about the security of his load.

  2. Thats why no lorrys should be allowed to use london road. Labour put a motion forward in full council but the tories rejected it what will it take to put an inforcement noticee on the unauthorised lorry park how many more Deaths
