ECG boost for Orsett hospital

PATIENTS will receive even better care thanks to a £40,000 donation by the WRVS to buy additional equipment. The donation has paid for five ECG machines as well as two bladder scanners for departments in Basildon and Orsett Hospitals.

The bladder scanners, which cost almost £7,500, have been given to Lister Ward and Lionel Cosins Ward. The non-invasive scanners allow the urine in the bladder to be measured to see if the patient’s bladder is completely empty, without needing to insert a urinary catheter.

Chris Hall, WRVS Manager, said: “I’m very pleased we were able to buy this equipment for so many departments. My family have themselves donated £700 towards the bladder scanners as my aunt, Rosie Wilkinson, was treated on Lionel Cosins Ward. So it was a cause very close to our hearts.”

The WRVS has 65 volunteers who between them run the shops in the main reception and in the maternity unit at Basildon University Hospital, and provide the ward trolley service. All the profits are given back to the hospital through funding new equipment. If you would like to volunteer for the WRVS, please call Chris Hall on 01268 593392.
