Basildon and Thurrock hsopitals are looking for nine public governors: three from Basildon, three from Thurrock, one from Brentwood, and two from the rest of Essex.
Being a governor for Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is about much more than attending meetings and dealing with red tape.
Their governors play an important part in providing impartial and considered observations on the appropriate running of the Trust, while also acting as a voice of the views, concerns and aspirations of the community. They can hold the Board of Directors to account for their actions and decisions, and select and appoint the Chairman and Non-Executive Directors. They are also a self-standing Board, providing a third dynamic between the Board of Directors and the regulatory bodies.
Ian Clifton, Lead Governor, said: “The Board of Governors are keen to accept their responsibilities and ensure the Board of Directors are accountable for their actions. I encourage people to consider standing for election. The role is varied and interesting, providing opportunity to take an active role in the process of observing, recommending, and being part of a group whose common cause is the best possible outcomes for patients and the community at large.”
The deadline for all nominations is noon on Friday 11 February. For more information and to find out how to put yourself forward for nomination, contact Ali Jones, Membership Officer, on 01268 524900 or 0845 155 3111 ext 8975 or by emailing foundation@btuh.nhs.uk.
