Consumer champion Which? has named Basildon University Hospital in its list of the country’s Top 10 Hospital Car parks.
In March, Which? used Freedom of Information requests, together with expert researchers and statisticians, to compile a hospital car parking ‘league table’ rating all hospital car parks in England, which they have turned in to an interactive map on their website.
The large number of priority spaces for blue badge holders, provision of a fair charging system, comprehensive payment methods, free parking period and well-publicised
concessionary parking scheme helped Basildon University Hospital secure its place in the top 10.
Jenny Galpin, Director of Estates said: “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised as having one of the top 10 best hospital car parks in the country. The 1600 space car park
was built in 2008 because we asked our local community what they wanted most and a new car park was the overwhelming response.
“In order to make parking easier for patients and visitors we offer flexible payment options (by cash, debit or credit card), a free parking period, concessionary parking, drop-off areas as well as many spots for blue badge holders. It is also true to say that we have a professional and enthusiastic team of staff who work in the car park and who take a great
deal of pride in what they do.”
