Young patients will benefit after tens of thousands of Tesco for Schools and Clubs
and Sainsbury’s Active Kids 2011 vouchers were once again donated to Basildon
University Hospital’s School room – but staff are making a final appeal to shoppers to
check their bags and wallets for any remaining vouchers as the hospital is still
collecting them until Monday 13 June.
Over recent years, vouchers have been collected and used to get equipment for the
hospital school room, playroom and for children on the wards.
Hospital School Teacher, Veronica Buttigieg, said, “We would like to say a massive
thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to collect and send us their
vouchers. Children of all ages staying on the Children’s Wards here at Basildon
University Hospital will benefit from new paints, IT equipment, books, games and
puzzles. The work of the hospital school helps to take our patients’ minds off their
health problems, have some fun and keep up their education while in hospital.”
Long-time supporter, Brian Jiggens, 58 has managed to collect over 50,500 Tesco
vouchers and many Sainsbury vouchers to add to their total. He first offered to help
the hospital seven years ago, after he spotted a poster when visiting his sick grand-
daughter and has been collecting every year ever since.
If you have any vouchers you would like to donate please send them to Veronica
