SAS War Hero George passes away

THE AVELEY SAS war hero, who had his precious commando dagger stolen from the Purfleet Museum passed away last night in Basildon hospital. He was 89 years of age.

As YT reported on Friday, George Denny, 89, from Aveley was hospitalised after being informed by the Purfleet Heritage Museum that the dagger which he carried with him throughout the war had been stolen.

His grandson, Darren Cockerell said: “Grand-dad’s health had deteriorated dramatically over the weekend.

“But it says a lot about the calibre of the man that the nurses had a great affection for him. He was also able to hear the news item on the BBC and know that we were all still looking for the knife.

“He was a great man and we will all miss him greatly.”

The full story regarding the missing dagger is below. A full obituary will appear soon.
