HOSPITAL staff are set for You Tube stardom after uploading a video of themselves signing along to the classic Christmas Carol ”Silent Night”.
The festive treat features around 25 members of staff from across Basildon and Orsett Hospitals, who have or are in the midst of completing a 20-week basic Level One Signing Course, under the tutorage of one of our porters, Steve Hartman.
Steve, who is profoundly deaf, has a teaching degree and is using his skills to not only teach other staff how to sign, but to raise awareness and give them an insight into life as a deaf person.
Steve, who also teaches at Southend College, said: “Our aim is to make Basildon and Orsett Hospitals among the most deaf friendly hospitals in the country. The staff in the video come from departments from all across the Trust and now they are already able to give hard of hearing patients better and more appropriate care.
