Christmas report from Bulphan WI

By Janet McCheyne

Christmas dinner at Hyde Hall got our members in the Christmas spirit and for our meeting, there were many twinkling ladies, bring plates of festive food. Irene Arney was thanked for reading at the Thames Group Carol service, which was in the somewhat isolated and wind-blown St. Catherine’s Church at East Tilbury. Janet McCheyne played the organ, which luckily was audible over the wind!

Denise Wakeling volunteered to be our reader at the Bulphan Church Carol Service and was also the proud winner of our handsome competition cup – for the second year running.

The refreshments tasted as good as they looked, and we had a chance to try the Christmas songs anagrams competition during the tea break. Sally reminded us about our outing to Lord of the Dance in February, there was a Christmas-themed quiz then we sung carols accompanied by the accordion.

Carol Davis assisted in a novel rendition of The Christmas Alphabet, reworded to feature Bulphan and WI celebrities and members accompanied themselves on percussion instruments during the jolly Christmas songs session, finishing with another custom-made version of the 12 days of Christmas.

Our latest programme is available on our website (bulphanwi.weebly.com) and in the village shop (thank you Tracy). We meet on the second Wednesday of the month, from 7.30 – 10pm in Bulphan Village Hall and visitors are always welcome. In January, Jan Curtis will demonstrate how to make fascinators.
