Update: Man dies after incident in Wharf Road, Grays

Update 1700 hrs:

Police are able to confirm that there are no known suspicious circumstances around the death of a man in Grays in the early hours of Saturday morning, July 7 2012.

A black man in his 50s, six foot tall, was found with in Wharf Road, Grays by a member of the public at about 1:15am today Saturday. He had visible head injuries and other injuries and was taken by ambulance to Basildon Hospital where he sadly died despite emergency medical treatment shortly after 4am. He was seen in Grays town centre, in the vicinity of the train and bus station in Crown Road, Grays slightly earlier.

Medical evidence is consistent with witness statements that the events which led to his death are not suspicious.

ESSEX Police is appealing for witnesses to an unexplained death in Grays in the early hours of Saturday morning, July 7 2012.

He may have been seen in Grays town centre, in the vicinity of the train and bus station in Crown Road, Grays slightly earlier. Anyone who may have seen this man in the area around or before this time is asked to contact police urgently on 101.

Police believe they know the identity of the man, but have to trace his next-of-kin before releasing it publicly.

At the moment (0945 hrs) the following area has restricted access. A126 London Road in Grays closed in both directions between the Wharf Road junction and the Maidstone Road junction, because of a police incident. Also affecting Wharf Road between A126 London Road and Argent Street, Maidstone Road between A126 London Road and York Place and Meesons Lane between A126 London Road and Helleborine.
