Message of thanks from mayor over olympic relay

“I am writing to thank residents, businesses and volunteers who took part in the Olympic torch relay celebrations last Friday.

“In my 38 years in the borough this is the best thing that I have ever seen in Grays. To see communities across the whole borough coming together and celebrating everything that is great about Thurrock made me feel especially proud to live here and represent you as Mayor.

“Friday’s event was the borough’s moment to shine and didn’t we do just that! The atmosphere and excitement throughout the route was electric and you were part of creating a lasting memory for years to come.

“I would also like to thank all local businesses and residents along and around the route for their patience and understanding on the day, and acknowledge the part you played to help over 25,000 residents enjoy the celebrations and make it a truly memorable day.

Thank you all.

Cllr Y Gupta
Mayor of Thurrock

  1. With no disrespect to anyone who carried the torch it was a shame that the majority of those who carried the torch didnt come from this area.
I would have liked to have seen Fatima Whitbread carry it or someone from Blackshots running club, anyone who had giving something to the borough in the field of sport.
