Let the stories begin!

THURROCK’S libraries are offering the borough’s young people the chance to join the biggest children’s reading event of the year.

From Monday (16 July) until mid September (Friday, 14 September) the Story Lab Summer Reading Challenge will be running in all Thurrock libraries – including the mobile library.

It is free to join and aimed at schoolchildren of all reading abilities. The challenge encourages reading for pleasure during the summer holidays and library staff have been visiting schools to promote what the challenge is all about.

The aim is for children to read six books and collect smelly stickers, new “mungler” trading cards and eventually collecting their own personalised certificate and gold medal for completing the challenge.

As the young people return their books, staff and volunteers chat with them and encourage them in their reading experience.

If your child is visually impaired you can also get “super sized “ Story lab materials designed in co-operation with the RNIB (Royal National Institute for the Blind). Just ask at your local library.
