BASILDON and Thurrock University Hospitals Foundation Trust has been issued a warning notice by the Care Quality commission over improvements to its services reports the Health Service Journal.
Several critical CQC reports found persistently high mortality rates and while improvements have been made following unannounced inspections from the regulator, concerns remain that the service improvements have not gone far enough.
Of particular concern to the CQC was over how the trust assessed and monitored the quality of services.
Andrea Gordon, deputy director of operations (regions) for CQC, said inspectors found the trust had taken immediate action in relation to some concerns and the organisation was pleased to see some improvements had been made.
However, she added: “We also found the trust needed to carry out more work in relation to how it assesses and assures itself of the quality of its own service. In light of this CQC has issued a warning asking the trust to ensure improvements are made in relation to this.”
The CQC found there was still no effective systems in place to identify, protect and monitor against identified risks, or to identify trends in internally reported incidents and it had 1,300 “open” incidents.
Chief executive Clare Panniker said the trust took “great heart” over the positive comments contained in the CQC report butwas disappointed that an enforcement notice was still in place.
An enforcement notice relating to care and welfare at the trust has been lifted.
