Hospital staff get on their bikes for Polly Parrott

A CYCLING team from Basildon Hospital will be powering across London and Surrey in a 100 mile ride to raise money to improve facilities for young patients.

Bianca Broadbent, physiotherapist, James Carrannante, consultant anaesthetist, and Simon Myles, estates manager, will join 20,000 cyclists taking part in the Ride London event, on 4 August.

The challenge begins in the new Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and passes iconic London landmarks before striking out for the Surrey hills.

The latest target for hospital’s Polly Parrot appeal is to provide the best standard of paediatric facilities possible to support high quality care. The money raised by the appeal will help redesign and decorate the area and purchase specialist equipment.

James Carrannante said: “We have seen from the success of the children’s emergency department appeal how improving the hospital environment has an immense positive impact on our patients and visitors.

“We want to reproduce these improvements in all our children’s facilities; the beneficiaries of our appeal will be the children and their parents who use our services.”
